As we head toward the end of 2019, we thought it would be timely to reflect on the year, 2019, at Chroma Dermatology.

 1. OUR PEOPLE

Our dermatology, nursing and reception teams have grown this year. We have welcomed new members to our team (Michelle (nursing), Cecilia (reception) and Dr. Celeste Wong (dermatologist)) who have embraced our passion for clinical excellence, research, education and outreach work. We are indeed blessed to have such a dynamic team delivering on our mission on a daily basis.

Wendy, Gabriella and Cecilia (reception), Michelle, Michelle and Dennise (nursing) and Shima (cosmetic services) – Thank you for helping us (dermatologists) to provide the best possible care for our patients. Our work would not be possible without you.

We also take this opportunity to say thank you to those that help us with essential everyday things like our internet, software, phones, website maintenance, pathology and hardware servicing. Thank you!

We look forward to keeping you updated with the arrival of new team members in 2020.

2. OUR SERVICES

In 2019, we added a new state-of-the-art micro-needling technology (VivaceTM) to our suite of energy-based devices. This has complemented our medical therapies and improved skin health outcomes for our patients.

We also have a RevealTM system in our clinic that provides a digital assessment of the health of the skin including redness and pigmentation levels. This will help guide our individualised treatment plan for our patients and ensure we can accurately monitor outcomes and progress during treatment.

3. OUR RESEARCH

We are proud to have conducted several research projects in various pigmentary disorders over the year that will be published in medical journals in 2020

Our research efforts in 2019 included:

  • Investigating a new topical cream for the treatment of melasma
  • Examining the potential link between allergy tendency and vitiligo
  • Examining how the redness component of melasma can be improved with oral treatment for melasma
  • Reporting on how dermoscopy can help dermatologists more accurately assess lichen planus (a condition causing pigment changes) in patients with skin of colour

We look forward to continuing our research and have some exciting studies planned for 2020.

4. OUR EDUCATION

We have educated medical and dermatology colleagues at local and international conferences. Our lectures covered everything from vitiligo, eczema and acne in skin of colour, melasma and white spots through to leadership for women in dermatology and cultural competence. We conducted Asia-Pacific’s first conference for Aussie GPs focused on skin of colour dermatology. 43 delegates returned to clinical practice with new knowledge and skills that will improve outcomes of those with skin of colour.

We have also hosted three dermatologists from abroad who came to our centre to learn more about pigmentary problems and skin of colour. We welcomed Dr. Giri Raj from Wellington, New Zealand; Dr Elaine Gutierrez from Manila, The Philippines and Dr. Eric Bravo from Lima, Peru. We enjoyed hosting them at Chroma Dermatology and hope they will continue their professional development in the areas of pigment disorders and skin of colour.

5. OUR OUTREACH

Outreach work has been an important part of Chroma Dermatology’s work from day one. We are proud that we have been able to extend our outreach work in 2019. In the past we have partnered with Sampan to serve those in rural north India. This year we partnered with Pacific Dermatology Limited. Through the generous support of the Chroma Dermatology staff and our educational activity, we were able to donate hardware to Suva, Fiji that will help train the first cohort of dermatology masters students in the Pacific Islands. We also provided on-the-ground training, teaching and clinical supervision for the trainees in September.

We are indeed blessed that we, at Chroma Dermatology, are able to serve the community through our daily work. We look forward to constantly refining our clinical services while continuing to pursue our educational, research and outreach initiatives. We thank our industry partners who have collaborated with us on educational activities and research projects and our dermatology, specialist and general practitioner colleagues who have entrusted the care of their patients to us. Finally, we would like to sincerely thank all our patients for choosing Chroma Dermatology and trusting us to care for you and your skin health needs.

From the entire team at Chroma Dermatology, we wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and a safe and Happy New Year!
